ITANAGAR, Aug 23: The Mara Youth Welfare Association has drawn the attention of Upper Subansiri District Administration towards the weak Tadak Dulom Som (Bridge) at Daporijo.
In a release, it said, despite repeated request for the maintenance and repair of the bridge, the concern authority has turned its deaf ear playing with the lives of innocent people who commute through this bridge on daily basis.
Saying that the bridge is the lifeline of many people which connects Daporijo to Dumporijo and many villages including important educational institutes like VKV and Subansiri Public English School, it urged the district administration to issue a prohibitory order and stop any kind of movement till the renovation work is done.

YUPIA Aug 23: Papum Pare District Magistrate Pige Ligu directed all the concerned license holders who have been issued arm license to furnish information, as per the format, to the Extra Assistant Commissioner (Judicial), DCs Office, Yupia within a period of 30 days for creation of Database of Arm Licenses for Papum Pare District.
It also stated that the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi has introduced a online website for National Database of Arm License for Papum Pare District and gave instructions to create database of arm licenses issued from this district immediately.

ITANAGAR, Aug 23: Claiming that a Bolero Pickup driver Hari Pradhan who was coming from West Kameng with tomatoes was allegedly attacked by miscreants at Nirjuli around 300 am today, All Arunachal Pradesh Motor Transport Workers Union appealed to the police authority to take stern action against the attackers. Union also claimed that Pradhan had sustained head injury when assaulter pelted stone at him.

ITANAGAR, Aug 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lower Subansiri conducted training cum demonstration program on soil solarization of tomato nursery bed today.
The subject matters specialist in Plant Protection explained and demonstrated the methods of soil solarization, most effective method to control soil borne diseases of crops, before the farmers.
Soil solarization is a method of heating soil by covering it with transparent polythene sheets during hot period to control soil borne diseases.
A total of 16 farmers actively participated in the programme.
In another program, the KVK conducted programs on cultivation practices of pea and nursery production and management of winter (Rabi) crops for Dyani Rilla Farmer’s Club at Hong village.
The subject matter specialists trained the members of the farmers club about crop management practices and demonstrated the method of nursery preparation of onion.
Altogether 14 farmers participated in the programme.

ITANAGAR, Aug 23: The Camdir Welfare Society has mourned the demise of Rosemary Narah Camdir who passed away at Banderdewa on August 15.
Late Rosemary Narah Camdir has left behind her husband, three sons and a daughter.
The society also mourned the death of Narah Yara Camdir who passed away on the same day. She was an attendant at Kimin PHC.

As people from all walks of life voiced their anguish, Political parties, media associations and Bollywood were one in demanding harshest punishment to the perpetrators of the crime in a city which is seen as far safer for women than the national capital. The attack also had its echo in Rajya Sabha which erupted in anger with agitated members expressing serious concern over increasing atrocities on women and the government assuring "harshest" action against the culprits.
Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal said sex assaults must be dealt with "in the severest manner".
"We cannot afford to let our women and children live in insecurity and must make sure that such attacks against women are dealt in the severest manner," he said.
Hundreds of people including members of several journalists' associations gathered in south Mumbai to stage a silent protest. Some wore black armbands, while others carried placards reading "Stop rape" and "City of shame."
Media associations in Chennai said the "horrifying incident" has shocked the entire country once again raising the issue of safety of women.

It has been one year and 13 days since journalist Tongam Rina was shot at while entering her office in Itanagar last year on July 15. And though the Capital police claimed to have made a breakthrough into the case, it is yet to arrest the alleged mastermind of the case, Yumlam Achung.
Rina was admitted in a critical condition to the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital with the bullet stuck inside after hitting at left waist touching the spinal cord and piercing the intestine. Three weeks later, she was transferred to the Fortis Healthcare, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Though she may look healthy now, but till date, she has not fully recovered. The trauma that she went through still haunts her.
It was appalling that the police could not find out the culprit/s behind the attack for almost a year.
And then when the incident was about to complete a year, just five days earlier, on July 10, it came out with revelation of the person/s involved in the attack.

It was also informed that the forensic examination of weapons recovered has confirmed its use in commission of crime and that Achung was absconding.
Prior to this, Achung was named mastermind of a vandalism attack in The Arunachal
Times office that happened on April 15 and the reason quoted for the attack had been
the same-
Except that the news of the breakthrough as published and broadcast all over, but in real, the mastermind, as the police claim, was not arrested yet. He had been absconding, according to the police.
And then interestingly, the absconding accused, Yumlam Achung gives out a press statement, signed, just two days after, on July 12, denying his involvement in the case. Till then, as told by the police, he is absconding and clarifying away to the glory.
And then another shocker came. Spouses of Yumlam Achung and another accused Raju Gurung too came out with explanations about how their husbands were innocent.
Though, the other two accused, Raju Gurung and Ajit Pegu, have been put behind bars, Yumlam Achung is yet to be arrested even after passing of a month and 13 days of the disclosure.
While many of us are still trying to come to term with the reason that got her attacked and sincerity of the police to work out the case, we cannot help but think that there’s more to it than what’s just on the show.
NgunuZiro bids for waste free schools
ITANAGAR, Aug 23: In its continuing efforts to promote ‘Zero Waste Schools’ at Ziro, NgunuZiro today organized its second program at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Ziro to ensure sustainable garbage management in Ziro Valley to keep the place clean and green.
Today’s program mainly aimed at sensitizing the students and staff of the school about the concept of zero waste management so that the school can implement the concept.
Two resource persons, Punyo Chada and Roto Chobin, who are trained on Zero Waste Management concept, explained the current practice of garbage management and the risks in such practices like dumping, burning, burying and even landfills. They then gave an overview of zero waste management and the feasibility of the school in implementing it.
Dr. Tage Kanno exhorted the students and the school authority to start zero waste management and establish the school as a model one.
It may be mentioned that a similar program was conducted in the Skylark School, Hapoli on August 17.
NgunuZiro has been advocating introduction of zero waste management for Ziro township since two years now when a workshop on solid waste management was conducted in collaboration with the District Administration and the Urban Development and Housing Department of Lower Subansiri District.
Though several positive steps were taken up by the administration and the sanitation in Ziro town has improved manifold, zero waste management concept has not yet been taken up satisfactorily.
It was then that NgunuZiro initiated the strategy to involve the schools by promoting “Zero Waste School” in the valley.
“Ziro Waste Schools” by definition, will not produce any garbage from the institution. Instead, all discards will be considered as resources and they will be reused and recycled in the schools themselves.
More schools in Ziro valley will be taken up in the coming days so that they become models for other schools and business establishments to emulate.
Three months on: Bomjen Gapak murder case still unsolved
ITANAGAR, Aug 23: With almost three months gone by, Capital police are yet to make any arrest in the Bomjen Gapak murder case.
Late Bomjen Gapak was killed by a group of people on the wee hours of May 27 last at Legi Complex here.
Family members had met with the chief minister as well as the SP who assured of early breakthrough into the case.
“SP had assured us of making arrests within 20 days, but it is going to be three months now and we are yet to hear anything,” said the distraught father Tabom Gapak.
The concerned All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) while placing an ultimatum for the early arrest of the culprits involved had asked for immediate appointment of an independent Home Minister, along with its other demands. State government while assuring to fulfill the demands had sought two months time which too has passed now.

Student, staff injured in stampede like situation in DPC
ITANAGAR, Aug 22: A girl student and a staff of Donyi Polo College, Kamki were seriously injured in a stampede like situation in the college yesterday.
The incident, first of its kind in the state, occurred in front of the BA first year classroom when the students were entering the classroom at 8.30 am, informed Dr. R Karlo, the principal of the college, in its letter to the Director of Higher and Technical Education.
This kind of incidents in front of classroom has become a daily affair since the classes started on August one, the principal said.
According to him, insufficient teaching staff and class rooms against the ever growing students in the college is overcrowding the classrooms.

TEZU, Aug 23: In order to sensitize the general people of Lohit district about the implementation of National Food Security Ordinance, the Lohit District Administration with Lohit District Food and Civil Supplies Department conducted a meeting with all the Panchayati Raj members and Goan Burahs of Tezu sadar in Officer’s Club, Tezu on August 21 last.
The Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma attending the meeting requested the PR leaders and GBs to render help and cooperation for segment wise collection of application forms within last date of this month (31.08.2013) and its onward submission to the District Food and Civil Supplies Office for timely implementation of the Scheme in the district.
